Subaru ej20 fuel pump relay

First off , apologies for not being on for a long time, not been using the van much this year at all.
Van has been laid up for a while following my shoulder opp and andrea having broken her arm just as mine was getting better .
Anyway the problem is as follows .
Tried starting the van but it just wouldn't fire , noticed a distinct lack of noise from the pump.
Bypassed the relay with 12 v straight from battery to pump and pump fired into life immediately.
So I changed the relay (056700-5260 denso ) for one which I knew worked from a while back .
Result, the same , no life in pump.
Checked power going to relay and have 12 v through yellow/silver wire ( switched via ignition) and perm 12 through larger red wire .however still no joy.
Checked for continuity through purple/ silver but nothing there.
If I put a bridge between the red and red/black the pump fired up.
Would this possibly indicate that the purple/ silver is not earthing correctly ?
At a bit of a loss
Thanks , daz
