Masking tape stuck on

I masked up prior to rollering. Then broke my leg so it's been stuck on for weeks. When I went out and pulled a strip today paint came off with it. Is heat or some type of thinner the best way to get it off?

Try soaking it well with some warm soapy water, keep wetting it, then if you can free the end to pull it off pull it back on its self ie fold it back until it touches the tape thats stuck on, then pull it parrallel with it, not at 90 degrees to the bodywork when you're more likely to pull the paint off.

try scoring the tape too to allow the water to penetrate, without scratching the paint underneath

I had the same issue on a vehicle years ago although it wasn't pulling the paint off the tape was just coming off in little bits (cheap tape I think), I just used a hot air gun to warm the glue and it came off fine.

Common problem with boat hulls - never leave it on overnight for another coat next day, the damp gets into the adhesive and it sticks like the proverbial to a shovel.White spirit will clean it off but with Rustoleum it takes the paint off the same as antifouling. I have tried cheap and expensive tapes and they all seem to do it. Warm soapy water, as said, is the least destructive together with the not pulling off at 90°.

Try lighter fuel/petrol, the stuff for Zippos, it's milder then white spirit, cellulose, etc but still a solvent.
just wet the paper tape and let it soak through to the adhesive and soften it then pull the tape off and wipe the
adhesive off with a paper towel or soft cloth. you can wet this with a bit of lighter fuel if the adhesive starts
to get tacky again, go gently and it shouldn't touch the paint finish.

Test first on the paint tho

I was thinking that a wallpaper steamer could do the job as well. Started it up for the first time in 5 weeks. A couple of spins and fired up. :ok
