Inverters

So on a hook up no problem, we get 240v from the Zig, can happily run the mini oven or the nesspresso machine both rated around 1000 to 1250watts.
When no hook up available there is a little inverter fitted but this is 350w/500peak, so won't run anything much.

I can get pure sine wave inverters rated at 2000w continuous 4000peak which in theory should run one Of The appliances, but I'm imagining having to rewire it direct to the battery with some thick cable as that's going to be some amps it's pulling? Has anyone installed an inverter with bigger ratings like this?

166 amps, gonna need a bigger battery
:rofl :rofl :rofl

Exactly my concern - can it be that in reality? Seems a huge current draw why would manufacturers make such an inverter if it's not practical or am I missing something?

I have a 3000W inverter in my truck. No need to rewire the appliances, you just use the inverter with chunky battery connections to provide 240v to the mains input.

Have I used it ?

Yes

Do I use it much ?

No

My leisure battery is 110 AH, and if I use the inverter in this way it pulls the battery down in no time at all. So, yes, I can boil a kettle without hook up or having to fire up a genny, but it's going to run flat pretty quickly (like in an hour or so, depending what you have switched on, even just providing power for a laptop takes quite a bit because the inverter is so inefficient)

Mines older, and non-sine wave, the 26" TV runs, but those square waves play havoc with the electronics and cause an awful noise so it doesn't get used for that.

That's really useful, I had not thought of wiring the inverter output to the 240 input, that makes much more sense and very short cable runs. The other little inverter is at the other end Of The bus so replacing this with a big one is not a good plan.
