diesels really need to be driven hard to get fully up to working temperature, they wont achieve this by leaving it running on the drive not matter how long it runs for, drive It on the motorway for a while and keep the revs up, drive in a lower gear, take it for a good 30 minute drive then present it for mot , 99.99% of the time they pass

That will be why I see so many belching stinking diesels then :roll:

Dealer found no issues and tested the smoke at 0.42

So it’s a win for the lead footed Italian in the driving seat. Have booked MOT with the dealer so it gets tested on the same machine, and I’ll run it up to temp first.

Just incase anyone else is reading the above - as far as I can tell it only became compulsory to have this on the vin plate from 2008, before that it appears to be hit or miss depending on manufacturer. A quick look on my late 2007 Peugeot 307sw suggests its not there so under the rules mine only needs to be under 3.0.

My 1.9 td t4 had a figure of 1.1 and was built in 1997 and the tester said if it was present that's what it would be tested to,1998 Passat with 294000 miles passed at 1.23 and had 1.2 on that sticker which also appeared to be damaged,still on original injectors
