Reluctant to disengage 1st & 3rd gear

1st and to a smaller degree 3rd gear, reluctant to disengage.
I recently had an engine transplant and refurbished the selector rod gearbox support bracket with lots of grease, a new bush and bellows.
Would this issue simply be that the support needs to be adjusted?
It wasn't there before the new parts were fitted

Does the bush move freely? I fitted a new one and it needed a bit of sanding

Yes the plate is on the front.
I'll check the boot.
Thanks

Slacken the two bolts and push the plate up to its highest position, retighten bolts. This should put the ball more in the cup. That usually does the trick.

Update.
Aidan was right about the boot.
It wasn't seated correctly over the ball there's a recess for the boot I didn't spot.
I also had the cup up too high.
All is good now.
Smooth as.

Probably due to lack of signal in holiday sites. Although they could have done it in such places as interne cafe's and Garden centers  .
