Thanks jeffroo,

I stubled on that one previously also.
Yes knowledge currently expanding, however I spoke to my colleague today, and we came to that the conclusion that..... as the engine has already been swapped and it works fine with the current dizzy on there.
Then swapping the inlet manifold and carb shouldn't be too much of an issue.
Yes it might need tweaking, but assuming the carb is good, it should just be a case of getting the vac hose in the correct place and tinkering.

My only questions about dizzy now will be. ...
Is the one I have defo vac advance. And where , (sometimes there are 2 points) does the hose go on the new carb....that I haven't got yet!Image

No idea on the question of whether the vac is advance or retard.
I'm sure AJ Simmo or someone else will know if they see the question.

The one vac pipe on a DG specific dizzy goes to a port on the base of the Pierburg ( the side facing front of the van. )
There are two ports there on the carb. One goes to the vac port on dizzy, the other can be blocked off.

I will post a pic of mine if needed when yours turns up.

Oooh that'll be handy ! Ta!

I have the round air filter box to go in. That has 2 vac connections.

The jigsaw is coming together!

The 2 vac connections are in and out of a thermo valve, which switches vac on or off to the air flap deflector actuator in the intake upstream from the airbox. Phew, that's a complicated sentence for a simple thing! Fortunately we don't really need it in our temperate climate, so just blank it off at the carb port, as said
Your dizzy is a SVDA, single vacuum dual advance, so yes, it's advance and has no retard function.

Thanks ajsimmo!

Appreciate you taking the time to type that one out! And for confirming my dizzy type.
At least that's two less things to worry about!

Confidence in the success of this little task is increasing thanks to everyone's help!

Right so , bit of an update,

Managed to get hold of some bits this week.

But controversially....I've gone for a weber.

Couldn't wait ....a weber came up first.

It's a 34 dat.

I've given it a once over , made up some gaskets and getting ready to fit it.

The accelerator will prob be a temporary bodge until I figure out a decent way.

The rest of it , I think I have sussed. I've had to repair and test the idle shut off. So at least I know that works.

But the question I have...

Am I missing a superfeed jet? Pics to follow. ImageImageImageImageImageImageImage

I will just add,

I offered up the new assembly last night,

And the gasket for the existing carb had all split....so looks like my timing was lucky.

Tho I will add its been bumbling about fine, did over 200 miles in it last weekend.
But we'll have to assume it's been running a bit lean....

So , bit of an update,

My throttle linkage wasn't far away when fitting the weber, so I've improved on my first , test piece, with something a little more refined.

There was a small spring with the unit. But that shot off somewhere during the fitting process and have been unable to locate, but luckily I found something similar, all be it , with a bit more tension. Which I believe was off a mondeo rear caliper handbrake assembly.

Anyway. ....
Initial start seemed OK...until it came off auto choke , then died and was a real pain to get it running.

But , I did manage to set the mix and idle once warm and seemed to have quite a bit more grunt than the pict 5 on the df manifold.

However....
Tried a cold start today, and auto choke did not want to engage. Tried the old , press the pedal, loads of times but no joy. But once it warmed up , with manual pedal feathering, it ran OK.

So I've been investigating that mech and the adjustment screws that might assist. Something to do with the vac high idle , fighting the auto choke.....possibly.

Oh yes,
Discarded the old square filter box for the oval substitute, binned off the vac tubes in this area , and the little valve box. And patched the ductwork together to get the feed in the rear pillar.

At times it felt like a fat ferrari , during my fiddling process, so I know I still need to tune it more,

Whether or not I go as far as swapping emulsion tubes and jets ......the tuning process will determine.ImageImageImageImageImage

Cheers

Weber 34 dat....

Has been running great , lots of extra umph, idle and mix set using a gunson gas tester.

Half a dozen runs done all good.

Then back to square one! After a heavy braking incident..not sure if related.
Then...
Kangaroo at low throttle.
Not wanting to idle anymore.
Only able to drive at full throttle with second choke open.

I've put the detail on another thread. Happy weber ...

So that's where we are.!

I guess I'm looking at overfuelling, flooding
Or blockage?

Bit of an update.

Hopefully resolved.....for now.

Pretty sure the float got stuck, and then me splitting the carb to investigate and then re-assembling made it much worse.

But got it second time.

Been OK since. 👍

Mot c02 emissions came back at 3.2. So I might look at plugs now to assess whether I should lean it up a bit.

Thought id just post an update ,

Its been running ok since the float issue was sorted.
Also upgraded the accelerator cable bodge to what i believe to be the correct mechanism.. replacement accelerator cable was a bit of a dog to get through the condiit near the front. Alot of swearing bit it did go.

Anyway. As previously mentioned
ive identified my current dizzy as ! Bosch 414, 0237023007....
Which i believe is normally found on a 2.0 Aircooled. Mine is obvs a watercooled 1983. 1.9 dg Image

So,
Does this matter ?
Would it run better with something else.?
Is it only the vac advance that would be different?

Any advice welcome.
