Oil Breather Hose the Culprit?

I was driving home yesterday in quite heavy, sideways rain and noticed steam out of my nearside intake...I kept a close eye on temp gauge, it was a tad higher than normal(slightly past midway, it usually rests just under), but not enough to trigger the fan (which I have only recently had come on whilst in traffic on a hot day, so I know is working). With no warning lights or excessive temp and the van otherwise behaving normally I carried on my short journey home, parking up then heading round the back to investigate. I notice my Oil Breather to Intake pipe had basically turned to mush and come off the intake, and dropped down onto the block itself, pointing in the direction of the nearside. As a first step I've ordered a new hose and I will not be driving the van until that is swapped. Do we think this, plus lots of atmospheric moisture, is the cause of the steam(I imagine the block was hotter than normal with oil vapour/traces out of the breather running onto it), or a symptom of something else? I've been regularly checking my oil and coolant levels, both of which have remained clean and pretty much constant. I'll be doing so again once the new hose arrives, obviously.

Mine did that.

As a temporary fix you can carefully remove some of the web to give you a short stub to push the hose on and jubilee clip in place.

I say temporary, mine did 12,000 commuting miles like that without issue.

Thanks both, I've not moved the van for now as fortunately it's not my daily. I've got the new parts to replace the knackered bits so will hopefully have them fitted one night after work, and I guess I'll be bleeding the coolant system after the new bleeder valve goes on(clue's in the name hah)?

Right swapped parts over, haven't had chance to do much else bar drive it a few hundred yards to my parents drive.

Do we think the PO may have popped some radweld in at some point?
