How much give and take on windscreen surround?

The windscreen's come out of our Westy for some repairs to the surround in the top and bottom off side corners and to fit a new upper front panel.
I tried the old windscreen in the gap without rubbers to check the fit before welding the panel in place and it's generally OK but there is definitely a bigger gap between the surround and the screen at the top towards the near side corner than on the other side.
The difference is about 4-5mm.
I don't think we've created the gap with our repairs because I've measured between a few what I'd expect to be solid fixed points and the difference is still there.
Our T3 doesn't generally seem to have been built to very fine tolerances so hopefully the windscreen rubber will have the give and take to cover the difference?
Does it sound OK or do we have a problem?
Thanks for any advice/help.
