Early Westie upholstery cleaning

Hi guys,
I've got a 1982 VW Westie Joker high top and doing a full (and boy, do I mean full) refurb on her at the moment. My question is that I want to give the original fabric covers on the seats a bit of a spruce up, plus potentially replacing the foam inside. I know they were originally Scotchguarded but is it just a case of giving them a wash in the machine?
Any thoughts?
