Hot rolled or cold reduced?

This might be a naive question, I haven’t seen it before.
I’m planning to buy some sheet steel for repair, and wondered if I should get hot rolled or cold reduced, as the steel stockholder has both. Hot rolled is only available down to 1.6mm, cold reduced is available thinner. Maybe that answers my question?
