Does anyone know the gauge of copper pipe for the fridge cooker etc and which olive size I need. Is sealant needed between pipe and olive? Is there a more flexible alternative?

I have seen 8mm and 10mm pipe used.

Mostly 8mm. If you're connecting to a tap manifold, check you don't need shouldered olives as opposed to conventional ones which may not fit properly.

You need to get them the right way round, not like the ones I found in my van when I removed the gas system, the only reason it didn't leak was the large amount of PTFE tape used.


Some has been removed and there's more inside the nut.

I’m just replacing all my pipe work. I’m using steel pipe for reasons as shown in this pic. You can see where the brass olive has not deformed to form the seal, but it has actually deformed the pipe instead. I even found it could do this with copper olives too
