Hope your all enjoying this cold weather.

Not sure if I have put this in the right section. Mods..I appologise.

Bit of a problem... Drove off this morning and immediatley felt as if the van was holding back. Drove the 40 miles to work and back and still the same.

Did a bit of a test, coming down a hill, lifted the handbrake 3 clicks 4 clicks still the van moved downwards. Didnt want to lift it all the way. Droped it down still the same, it made no difference to the rolling van

It feels as though the back brakes are binding esp handbrake.

Dont feel too comfortable messing with brakes, but is there any suggestions to do any tests. Can the handbrake lose adjustment over night.. start to bind. Is it freezing weather related??

Your handbrake has frozen. Leave it in gear only when you park, perhaps a brick for now under a wheel to hold. Some water has got into your rear brakes lines and frozen. You will need to replace your handbrake lines at some point, probably split, hence water ingress. So, don’t use your handbrake for now.

Thanks, makes sense, they do look rusty. Will it be ok to use once it gets warmer?? Whenever that will be. Big job to replace??

When the temperature rises, ideally you want back wheels off the ground using axle stands so you can get some idea of the issue. As said, replace handbrake cables.

Hi all,

What better way to spend Easter Sunday on my back doing this. What started as easy job turned into a nightmare.

The screwed in clips on the trailing arm were a nightmare. Got on off with vice grips as they were rusted solid, replaced with nice stainless screw.

Now the other side... cant get it off. Didnt want it to turn into an all day job. Used a few cable ties just to secure it trailing arm. Is this ok?? Any advice on how to get the other off??

Having cable tied I managed to adjust the handbrake. 2 clicks and they are tough to move

Our handbrake also binds occasionally if it's been stood for a while. If you look underneath theres a connection bar where the single handbrake cable splits into two. Just after this the two cables pass through a plastic sleeve on their way to each of the rear wheels. With ours the cable has worn a groove into these sleeves and now sometimes gets caught by them. With the handbrake on, reaching under the van and simply pulling the cable to one side out of the groove is enough to free it and allow us carry on as normal.
