1.7KY to 1.91Y or AEF

Hi Guys, I am new to the forum (and to the T25) and appreciate all the great info on here. Just read Colinthefox's excellent article of converting a 1.6CS to a 1.9AEF, such great detail. I have the 1.7KY and wondered if anyone had carried out the 1y/AEF conversion on one of these and if so was it worth the effort? I understand the 1.7 is a bit more powerful that the 1.6, however I am still aware that it is under powered. Can I also ask if the gearbox in the 1.7 is the same as the 1.6? I love my van and intend to keep it for a long time to come, gradually improving and preserving it.
Thanks in advance

It's all about torque. That's what gets you up the hills.

These figures from Wikipedia

CS (1.6NA) 100Nm @2500rpm
KY (1.7NA) 103Nm @2800rpm
AEF or 1Y (1.9NA) 124NM @2500-3200rpm

So an AEF or 1Y should give you 20.4% more grunt than a KY, or 24% more than a CS. With the smaller engine, most of the torque is used up just keeping the van moving on the flat, so the extra feels like a lot more than those figures would suggest.
