Wiper Mechanism Disassembly?

I've removed my wiper mechanism from behind the dash and I need to replace the spindles as they're both worn.
How do the relay arms come off?
I've had a close look and they look as though they should pop off, no circlips etc. I've tried to pull them off without using too much force, but they won't move. Thought I'd ask before I try any harder.

Also, I've looked at the new spindles online. Do the old spindles need to be drilled out of the brackets as they look like they've been pressed/peened in position?

Andy.

Has anyone stripped these down before?

Before you strip it all apart/buy new spindles what is it that is 'worn' on your current ones? Is it just that wipers won't tighten up? If that is the case this is a usefull link http://www.gowesty.com/tech-article-details.php?id=145" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Doing this sorted mine out/stopped the left one 'creeping'

Hi Muttleypup,

I want to replace the spindle as the top of the thread has snapped off. Probably through overtightening in the past. They had actually drilled and pinned the wiper arm onto the spindle.
Do you know how to remove the relay arms/rods from the spindle?

Sorry can't be any help. They do look like they should 'pop' off and a parts diagram shows no clips so i guess a bit of force after maybe a soak in WD40 or similar would free them. Spindles themselves are peened into bracket so would need drilling or grinding off to free them but are you sure new wiper spindles are available?
Might be a better option to buy a good used assembly?

Ok, just had a go tonight. They do just pop off with a bit of leverage from underneath with a screwdriver.
Easy.
