Cab doors locking mechanisms

My RHD 1986 van allowed you to push down door post before shutting to lock door. But of course did not permit same action on drivers' door.

My new to me RHD 1989 van has preventers on both cab doors. Okay to push lock pin when doors are shut. But not ajar.

Likelyhood is, due to many reasons unknown to me, previous owners' replaced passenger locking mechanism with a LHD mechanism.

So my question is: can mechanism be coverted to allow operation of door lock pin on passenger door when ajar. And what is the method?

Regards
Stuart

First squeeze and hold the door opening trigger and then press the lock button down. Close the door without releasing the trigger.

Hi Titus,

Followed to the letter without success. Neither button for pass nor drivers door depress?

Not strange its the anti lock out set up, stops you locking the doors with the key inside.

True. But only should apply to drivers door not passenger door. Both doors lock on depressing pin when fully closed though.

So what is different between drivers side and pass sode within mechanisms? Checked both. They look identical to my late 86 van

What is the part number on the passenger side lock, if it starts with 251 it could be lock out type . 252 is the passenger side number for rhd without power locking. Push back the door rubber to find the number.

Hi Multisi,
Both doors start 252...aha!.
Ive ploughed through all my T25 spares and found a pair of mechanism both starting 251. Yet one lve marked as pass. Other as driver. l wonder whats inside preventing depressing button when door is ajar?
Will fit when warmer outside and report my findings

Thanks very much and
Merry Christmas
Stuart

RHD passenger door lock mechanism 252 now in place and glad to report pin drops when pushed down with door ajar as it should. Likely previous owner replaced passenger door with LHD version, or driver door, changed handle and key lock but not mechanism.
Thanks to all involved

Stuart

On a similar vein - any way of fitting a child lock to the passenger front door (as our 4 yr old jnr dubber has a habit of trying to open the door whilst we are driving - corporal punishment & straight jackets aren't very pc anymore apparently).

We cope now by having him in the middle seat of our double front seat (in the camper or the scudo) - but that's too handy for his feet near the gear sticks (putting him in the back isn't an option) - god help us when he's out of his baby seat (which will be very soon), & we're relying on a normal 3 point seat belt only !!.

Temporarily remove the bar connecting the internal door lever to locking mechanism. It will mean opening door from outside each time though. But its a no cost alternative taking about 15 minutes to sort. Then replace bar when the little blighter sits in rear.

Cheers Maxtu :D
I knew there would be a straight forward (simple (ish) answer - is that an MOT fail ? (could refix for the mot obviously).
Before taking the door card off - I assume it can be done via the interior handle & leave the cable floppy in the door (still attached to the internal bit of the exterior door handle / mechanism).
He's not likely to be going in the back (as we have fitted a double passenger seat up front (both with 3 point seat belts - by having a nice strong frame made to attach it to :-),
& the rear seat is a bed which can be put into a seat - but the angle is a bit too leaning back & not really safe enough as another seat at the moment).
The other pain is he can open the window winder with his foot (could take it off - but that would be a pain - especially if we wanted to open the window to open the door - can't win them all
