As its now coming up to the winter months and I won’t be using the van is much as I’d like to I was thinking about hardwiring a ctek charger to the main battery so I don’t have to keep moving bed mattress/junk to get to battery. ( battery in engine compartment)

Plan is
1.hardwire to battery instead of crocodile clips
2. Route wires out of engine compartment so main unit is in van/use plug in van
3. I have an outdoor socket so it’s easy to connect EHU to van
4. Keep on trickle charge
5. Unplug EHU
6.drive off into the sunset
7. On return plug EHU
8. Back on trickle charge


Any reason as to why not ???

Isn't that the whole idea of that type of charger?
I have a number(not cetek) that I use on the van and two motorcycles, just left connected for months at a time, they have a small plug so I just plug it in and disconnect it when I use the van.
With the one on the leisure battery I disconnect the connection to the charge relay otherwise it does some odd things due to the higher voltage.
Just re read your post, you want to leave the charger hard wired, i un plug mine.

None. Unless as Marlin says you have voltage sensing split charge relay.

My split charger is rather primitive ie charges when driving. Don’t think it has a sensor!

No reason why the charger has to be connected directly to the battery, anywhere with a permanent live and a reasonable current rating would be OK, such as at the split charge relay or fuse box.

Plug the charger into the cigarette lighter socket!

Not that I’m an electrician, surely it’s best to connect as close to the battery if not to it rather than at the other end of the van ?!??

Yes you're right but at 1 to 5 amps and then 1/2 amp trickle charge I think it's ok( and thinking of convenience)
