Just fitted new 2.1 motor to replace my expired 1.9 dg. The old motor used to sit just on the minimum unless it was particularly hot. The new engine is only 50 miles in but the gauge sits much higher, approximately in the middle of the dial but it does seem to stay there. I've been a bit worried it seems to be reading hotter on the gauge and also a little confused? Everything else seems ok except my timing gun is bust so haven't been able to get it spot on but its not far off. Can anyone out there ease my troubled mind?

Forgot to mention! I have also fitted new water pump, thermostat and radiator as well as any pipes that looked past their best.

Middle is where it should be, so no worries there.

Did you reuse the old stat and temp sensors or swap them?

All new parts, stat, housing etc

Actually, I did reuse the old sensors(with new seals) as they were fitted about a year ago and I thought they'd be ok?

I guess that's why I'm a bit confused...

Unless its the new thermostat?

Apart from the thermostat an engine change would have meant all electrical connections being disconnected and then reconnected. Temp needle halfway or thereabouts is where it should have been with the original engine suggesting that there was a problem now rectified.
