Hi gang,

I am going to sell my Carat allows I favour of merc steels 15" et31. Am thinking of light a/t look so wondering about 195-80-15 or 215-75-15 the latter are popular but 6.5%gearing upgrade on a slightly worn 1.9dg on lpg might be tiring the engine (4 speed box). Any thoughts or experiences welcome. I like the AT look and my suspension is fairly high but not raised (don't have any need to raise it & expensive)

I am running 205/70-15 ATs on our Westy - It's a jx, so I didn't want to push it on the sizing. These are 1.4% oversize I think - roughly 5mm increase in diameter.

I think they look good :)

195/80 R15 is an increase in size of around 5.96% over the standard 185 R14 tyre. Generally anything more than around a 5% increase is going to have an impact on performance, so this size might be achievable depending on how healthy your engine is.

215/75/R15, which is generally taken as the largest size that will physically fit a 2WD, is around 7.65% increase and so probably too much of a jump.

205/70 R15 works out as being around a 2.14% increase, i.e. a 14mm larger diameter.

More than I thought then... I'll have to revisit my calculations...

That's the size I have sat on rims in the garage waiting for when the van comes back. Not AT spec but normal commercial tyres.

A quick trial fit before the van left didn't show any problems and looked ok - For me it is a combination of a good compromise size and the fact I got nearly new tyres at a bargain price. However if you are wanting more of an AT look I'd be tempted to go a little bigger with 215/70/15 but depending on ride height it may start getting a little tight.

I do like the look of a/t tyres on these things!

I've got 215/14 on carat alloys and they do the job with a slightly different look to the usual tyre/wheel combos.
