VW Lupo Intermittent fault - 1.4 petrol BBY engine

Not T25 but VW, Georgia's 1.4 Lupo (petrol) has an intermittent fault - rough idling, "pooh" to start, like missing especially when it's damp outside.

There are no fault codes. I've changed the coil packs.

I'm thinking EGR valve? She's off to Cornwall next week and I need to make sure sure it's ok for her. Your thoughts....

Thanks Sharon xx

Not sure what the 1.4 is like but I have a 1.0 and EGR valve can be blanked off with a small plate, you van buy them on ebay.

Get pull injector rail out hold a4 paper under Injectors to check spray pattern

Check each coil one by one manually spark plug arc off engine, and wiring, also

Could be maf throwing wobbler

I have seen an EGR fault code when it was really playing up, would MAF throw it up aswell?
This is new territory for me, we have been dweezel for so long.

I've seen lots of these bby engines with idle issues but not showing codes, sometimes with intermittent faults the component hasn't died but is on its way out. Seen new coils that were dud too

My train of thought is basics, check fuel then spark then air when checking each stage check wiring and multiplugs as for the maf, try unplugging it see how it runs can clean element with carb cleaner.
