I have a 2ltr 1982 vw t25. Have just today changed the spark plugs to Bosch specified ones and now my van cuts out whilst idling and when driving stutters a lot. Have put the old spark plugs back in and the same thing is happening........any ideas anyone?? To cut a long story short, he broke down the other day and the garage changed 3 of the 4 plugs cos that was all they had, he was then running fine but i thought it best to stick a set of 4 new spark plugs in. Please help!!
cheers

That is your clue really - if it was running fine, you changed something and the it was hesitant, you reverted back and its still hesitant.

You must have disturbed something or not put it back as it was.

Plugs - gapped correctly? - irc 0.8mm but I would need to check.
Plug tops correct? - My new bosch platinum ones I had to remove tops to expose threads so the leads would clip on securely.
Plug leads seated correctly? - as above. Check dizzy end too if removed for any reason.
Disturbed any vacuum lines?

Failing that it just comes back to basic checks in the area you were working - has to be something simple.

Check you havn't disturbed the the small vacuum pipes sounds like air getting in somewhere.

It might just be coincidence.
I would say the plug change was unnecessary and the problem was to do with fuel
I would clean the idle jet and floatbowl.

What is the best way to clean the idle jet and float bowel?

have dismantled the carbs and given them a good clean......one of the main jets was slightly blocked so that may have been the problem. Unfortunately now though i cannot get my van to start.....it trys but wont quite fire up no matter how long i persist for. Any ideas?

Pop a thimble full of fuel down the Venturi in the carb. Fuel pump is struggling to pull fuel up as the carbs. has been drained empty.

there's a good squirt of fuel coming into the carbs so its not that unfortunately.
