Early DG Waterpump difference

The bearings on my water pump are on there way out. I have the early coolant system. Brickwerks and VW Heritage are both out of stock (Febi and Meyle respectively). Just Kampers have a Febi in stock but on their blurb it states that their pulley may have to be purchased too.
Any ideas of how I would know if I need their pulley? Whats the difference between theirs and other suppliers?

im pretty sure the pulley from your existing one will fit, there is no difference tween early and late pulleys iirc either

You should be OK only the very early DG's 1982/83 used a one piece pulley.

Thanks folks. I'm still confused. If I have the early coolant system does that mean I have to have an early pump or do I only need the early pump if I have a one piece pulley?

My engine is out of a 1984 van.

You need an early pump, if you have a one piece pulley you will need a new split pulley. Very early vans had a water pump superseded by a later type early water pump. In other words there was two early pumps, only one now available.

Thanks Big Herb. I thought I was missing something!! I've got all my bits ordered now just need the gasket from the thermostat housing to block: 025121127C. Everyone is out of stock. If I knew the thickness I'd fashion one out of gasket paper / Cork.

Custom and commercial list it as in stock.

Just an update:

In never obtained the gasket so resorted to gasket paper and rtv. The thickness of the gasket wasn't an issue as the small hose accounts for an change. I fitted the pump, completed a test run then booked a holiday to Wassenaar in Holland. 24 hrs later we were there - Mrs BM, x3 min BMs and me. We had a fantastic 8 day holiday, covered just short of a 1000miles and no water leaks.

To confirm, my van is an 85 model, the enigne is from an 84 model and it had the 2 part pulley. Therefore the 'early' pump fitted with no issues.

Thanks for all your help
