Ignition electrical probs

Hi all,
Not great with electric so need some help. Bus been running fine but suddenly had issues getting her to start. Closing inspection I could see the ignition cable that connects to the coil had blown off the top of the distributor, the end had snapped off and was blackened. I check the rest of the HT leads of the distributor, all were ok apart from number for which was again blackend and blown.
I've never been quite convinced by ignition electrical. This tells me something isn't right but not sure where to look or what may cause this?
