Re: Not a restoration.
Aye Carrera, Fingers crossed they drift out ok, I'd not expect to replace them before the disks need done anyway so wouldn't usually have to get them out of the disk but it's easy enough to get the disks off.
50k sounds more like it Paul. I probably got GSF bearings last time.
I also treated myself to a compressor for the garage so no excuse not to underseal the van this year and touch up the paint.
oh yeah, and I need to find out what's causing the occasional pop from the exhaust when I lift off the throttle.
leaky exhaust? ignition timing slightly out? weak mixture? it feels a bit flat with WOT under load too.

Re: Not a restoration.
Howdo Bob, good to hear from you sir.
That popping could possibly down to a failing vacuum advance/vacuum hose as i had the same symptoms when going downhill with the foot off the gas.

Re: Not a restoration.
Well, the bearings never got done last weekend cos a birthday party rendered me unfit to do anything more than groan. But one bearing done tonight and another lined up for tomorrow morning before I head off to Aboyn.
Old bearings came out ok, there's a nifty little slot to get a drift into and drive out the outer shells.
Looks like there's been some water in there that's contributed to the demise of the 2 year old Koyo bearings.

Re: Not a restoration.
Yeah, it looks worse than it was, cleaned up nicely with no pitting, like the rust was just lying on the surface.
Weird.
I can only think the grease I packed in there got hot and ran out and water got in the speedo drive hole.
I've just checked the offside bearing and it's like new so I'll leave it be.

Re: Not a restoration.
Got a few things to do to the bus, wire brushing/vactanning/touch up spraying/undersealing and got an airhorn to fit.
Can't do it though cos a mate's daughter is staying in it this week on my drive.
I think she'd be a bit disturbed if I started working on it in the evenings.

Re: Not a restoration.
I touched up the paint tonight with the spray gun, gave it a good check over for a run down to the borders this weekend and booked it in for MOT on Tue.
I've not done a long run in it for a while but have every confidence in it.
It's far from perfect cosmetically but at least I know it's mechanically and electrically sound.

Re: Not a restoration.
A decent run will do the van good. You must have confidence if you're going on a decent run with the MOT already booked

Re: Not a restoration.
Had a good run down to Lauder
and back. 500mile round trip.
Then failed it's mot yesterday. Nothing too serious. Holes in both sills and front right outrigger and around front right JP.
Not the end of the world.

speedo cable should have a blob of silicon on the end over the E clip, you can get away without it darrrn sarfff if you have hub caps but if you lived somewhere with a lot of rain and had no hubcaps

Hah, it's funny, Lauder is 250 miles south for you, if we go away for a short weekend Wooler up in Northumbria is a favourite, both just t'other side of the border.
Shame about the MOT, but as you know, this isn't a restoration. How long before you have it sorted ?

Noted, I'll give it a blob.

I've started on the grinding and welding, doing the tricky bit first around the front right JP and sill.
Hoping to get it all finished this weekend as it looks like I'll be doing more runs to Lauder and more exploring Scotland in it this year. (with company. )
I'm missing being able to use my mate's garage, lying on your back under the van grinding and welding is no fun. Having the pit and being inside made life so much easier.
Oh well, sparks in the beard and up the sleeves it is then.
