Just looking at the jobs i want to do on the van and thinking im better off just buying a proper torque wrench and getting the tightness correct for each job.
From Laser to Britool the prices are double but i imagine a Britool will last for the rest of my life.
Problem is im not sure what size to get as their range is long ones, short ones and different torques ?

Have a look at Norbar wrenches. They are very well made & accurate.

Halfords Professional range have a lifetime guarentee if you keep the receipt. If you have a mate with a trade card the discount is usually good.

Might be stating the obvious but what sockets have you got? If you have 1/2 inch drive sockets it would be best to get a 1/2 inch torque wrench. But that might not be 'small' enough for lower torque settings. I've got a 3/8 and a 1/2 inch torque wrench but pretty much always use the 1/2 inch on the van. Your'e not (probably!) using it every day so don't buy the cheapest and you don't need the most expensive. Aldi and Lidl do good deals but you'd have to wait for them to come around.

This looks suspiciously like a dressed up version of the torque wrench we supply with our machines.. from CK, a franco /german company in the Alsace Lorraine.. comes in 1/4 3/8 and 1/2".....1/2" is the most useful,

and you can use a 3/8 adapter for THAT extra long thin walled 14 mm socket...

TUV cert is included.

As you have a 2l Aircooled...

.... lucky boy.....

There are no huge nuts to undo..e.g.: flywheel... so you you can use a compact wrench...

Fits in your toolroll..the one that goes under the drivers seat, along with the telescopic wheel brace..

I got a Thorsen t150 from eBay like this one. I had a click type one before but it went badly out of calibration very quickly.

what ever you end up with, remember the golden rule and wind it off after or it will go out of cal. very quickly!

I've got a Clarke's digital torque wrench from Machine Mart, £89. Pleased with it so far, easy to setup & traffic light LED's and beeps for when you're getting to and reach the torque limit you've set:

Don't fancy digital, sounds like it has a lot more to go wrong

I happened to visit Halfrauds over the festive season and the chap that worked there informed me of a change of policy, you no longer need a receipt and it now covers moving parts such as ratchet pawls and rings in the ratchet spanners.
Just thought you all would like that bit of info.

I have the Norbar wrench pictured below.
Picked it up for £10 at the boot sale, works fine and seems well made


Also always test it before use (on a bolt and nut in a vice etc...)
I speak from past errors .... having previously hired one which was faulty and my clutch plate in the bay window became a painful experience!!!!!!!

Indeed, I use one of the old school bendy ones now due to an unfortunate experience with a clicky one and a flywheel.
