That's another good option! Thanks for the suggestion.

After further research and checking out how the oil circuit works, I think the simpliest option is actually the first suggested, a T-piece. It might not have a fast responce when the temperature changes, but I think I can live with that.

However, here we go with another issue. The T-pieces I found all have a M10 x 1 thread, which is good because that is the thread used in the oil circuit (for example for the pressure senders). I have a 150°C VDO oil temperature gauge (http://vw-t3-bus-shop.de/en/vdo-oltempe ... eige-52-mm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;), and the only VDO M10 x 1 sensor (VDO 323-801-009-003D) is too long to fit any of the T-pieces I found online. I could make a proper t-piece, but I took some measurements in my engine and I think a bigger t-piece (that allows for the VDO sensor) will not fit.

So looking around I found that back in the days VW used this sensor: 1H0 919 563. This is a low profile, M10 x 1, 150 °C oil temperature sensor. However, I could not confirm it works with the VDO gauge.

So, anybody out there knows if the 1H0 919 563 sensor works with a VDO 150°C oil temp gauge?

I had to wander through this lot when I needed a sensor for the vdo gauge in my boat:

At least you know that they all work with vdo gauges.

So, an old post, but just to conclude for anybody out there that might have the same problem. I stuck to the first suggestions, and in the end these are the parts:

- vdo oil temp gauge
- vw oil temperature sender part no. 1H0919563 (warning: this is not an exact mach for the vdo gauge, it will slightly underestimate the temperature; however that was the only one I could find short enough to fit the M10 adapter)
- T-piece adapter to fit on the oil filter (http://www.vw-t3-bus-shop.de/adapter-zu ... ler-10-x-1" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;)

The temperature readings does not have a fast responce (since the sender is not directly inside the oil flow); however it is quite simple to fit and will reasonably tell you how hot the engine is running.

I have the Audi VDO oil temp gauge, I bought one of these:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/p/AUDI-80-100-Oi ... 1717949497" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
And fitted it in place of the sump plug with an adaptor from Demon Tweeks. Its m10 fitting so would go in your tee piece. Tested it in boiling water, it read on one of the lines on the gauge so I take that as 100 deg C.

Thanks so much for returning, I like a finished thread. Well done with your solution and thanks for sharing. :ok

Yeah, the 049919563b is the only alternative M10 sensor I've came across. However VW rates it at 0-180°C, whereas the VDO oil temperature gauge reads 0-150°C. The 1H0919563 is rated at 0-150°C, so I went for that. However, neither of these two sensors are actually VDO, so it might be that the 049919563B is more accurate. I guess the only way to know would be to test both of them with the actual VDO gauge.

I know this is resurrecting an old thread but I missed this the first time around (Sorry).

I have a newer JX engine with the two sensors, one in the head and the other on the filter housing.

I am hoping that I can fit a T piece in both places, the one in the head will take the sensor for the pressure and the one in the filter the sensor for the temperature. Accuracy is not required only indication so am I right in thinking those positions will be good enough for that?

I was sure I had had this conversation with somebody on here a while back but after extensive searching I couldn't find anything, so apologies in advance if somebody has answered this before.

Cheers
Jon

Hi Jon how are you doing? If you use a dual pressure sender ( on the front of the c/head) you won't have to fit a "t" pice.r
Fitting a temperature sensor/sender seems like a good idea as oil will be going to the turbo from that area.

Hay Baz, all good here mate.
Thanks for the advice but I already have 2 sensors and gauges, I really just wanted to confirm if the locations I have chosen would do the job.

I'll take a couple of pics of the intended set up later on.

Cheers
Jon
