Accelerator cutting out intermittently

Hi, my T3 with a 1.9 diesel Passat engine has a new problem.

I can be driving along normally, then as I slow down for a roundabout or something the car suddenly loses power. It feels like it is stalling but the engine keeps going. After 5-10 seconds the car seems to right itself and power is returned. During this time no matter how much I press the accelerator it wont rev unless I press the clutch in which case it seems to act as normal (once the clutch is released it tends to revert back to not working again).

I was messing around with the wiring earlier in the week. Could it be something to do with this?

Engine is a 110hp 1.9tdi from a 1997 vw Passat.
The engine code is AFN

Have you checked your throttle position switch is clicking/switching when it should?
