If you are having trouble with the IR cut on a CCTV camera I have found one cause -

The unit is less than 3cm long so you need a good lens and care.
The switch over from plain filter to infra red filter is carried out by this. Quite a simple construction - it is a simple electro magnet operated by a reversing power supply. The magnet is positioned on the bottom of the spindle that has the actuating arm at the top but is only held on by friction and it takes very little to allow it to rotate on the shaft. This just needs a touch of stud lock to hold it in place. A couple of tests to check that it is in the correct position then let it set. Re-assemble, easier said than done, steady hand, patience and tweezers needed. It is self evident as to fitting back together.
A simple repair that shouldn't be needed on £100 cctv camera! Saves buying a new one.
