Hi Peter,

It is a common(ish) conversion. Lots on here about it. Here is a search I did for you on here in the "Alternative engine" section for posts about fitting in line 4 VW petrol engines, = Click here

What have you now, petrol or Diesel? If Diesel it's quite easy to do as the block and manifolds etc are basically the same. If you currently have a petrol engine, you need some bits off a Diesel engined T25, such as the main crossmember and the sump etc etc.

When you say "Golf" engine, are you talking petrol or Diesel? Both will go in, though with Petrol, you need an injection version, either 1.8, or the later 2Ltr.

Fitting either diesel or GTI from a 19WBX you will need:

Diesel engine bars (including the often missing stubby bit to chassis
Diesel bell housing
Diesel engine or GTI
Diesel input shaft
Diesel engine mounts
"pooh" plate to gear box
Diesel Coolent pipe or make your own
Diesel Sump/gasket etc

for GTI

fuel pump (mk2 Golf easiest)
All associated nuts & bolts
Wiring to pump etc
one of Elvis two into one manifold joiner or the german bloke on 2E in my bus website
For exhaust - late diesel pipe joined to pug back box (estate)

For diesel

Wiring loom to glow plugs etc
Turbo inlet fanny mould
Oil pipes
Decent Diesel pump (GTD with a Mr Reg cheesman tickle)
Intercooler and piping

2E/Agg is more bang for your bucks

Does the Elvis 2 to one manifold adapter fit a 1.8 Gti from a Mk1 golf? Or because I assume the enjoy is a bit shorter it would foul the engine mount?

And if you pm me with an email address, I can forward a whole bunch of documents regarding the fitting and wiring for the AGG (Golf MkIII era) engine.

Hi Gary,

Could I trouble you for the docs too please?

I'm just starting to assemble all the parts to convert my air cooled camper.

Cheers,

Hi,
yes I am still about and still running my AGG powered van.

However, your best bet now for information is to join the Fb VW T3 GTi conversion club https://www.facebook.com/groups/2561916 ... =-UC%2CP-R

Amongst the header you will find a files section. Have a good read through that (it includes my original conversion write up) and then ask questions there. There are now many people who know more about the conversion than I do.

With regard to your engine, I think the AWG is a later engine (98 on?) and a completely different block. The advantage of the earlier (AGG, ADF & other ) versions is that they share the block design with the JX factory TD diesel engine so can use it's ancilliares (Sump, engine mounts, flywheel, clutch etc.) I suspect that someone has successfully fitted an AWG but that's a whole different story!
Good luck
