Coolant Draining and Battery...

What is the approved technique for draining and refilling the coolant on a Syncro with an Audi 2.2 engine? Is it simply a case of disconnecting the lowest hose on the engine, letting it all drain out (with the heater on) and then refilling it through the expansion bottle? Or are there any air bleed valves I need to find to ensure there are no air locks in the system?

Also, what is the correct spec battery for a Syncro?

Thanks.

Your syncro with a 2.2 Audi engine will be a conversion so there is no typical arrangement for hoses.
Post up a few pics of the engine and we'll see if anything looks obvious.
For a battery just fit the one with the most Ah you can find that is 175mm tall (I presume that it was a WBX petrol van before, so the battery will be under the RH front seat)

Be very careful draining the audi 2.2. It is very easy to get an airlock in the cylinder head which can cause the head gasket to blow!!!! this happened to mine when I had the cylinder head re-built. I only drain sufficient to top up again with new antifreeze, but the system had been completely flushed. Really not sure the best approach, but I put the back of the van on ramps, so nose was as low as I could get it, removed radiater bleed screw and let it drain from there, re-filling from header tank. No guarantee this will work, I hope someone with more knowledge will pop up and put me right!

Thanks for this - I tried taking a photo of the underneath of the engine earlier but you cannot see a lot from it - the lowest coolant hose appears to be the return from the radiator going into the water pump so I'll pull that off to drain the system. Where is the radiator bleed valve located?

I was going to post a pic of the van bit it's not obvious how you do this in this forum. Once again, any advice would be appreciated!

Thanks again, Paul

Rad bleed valve is the "bolt" on top of the radiator, on the offside (rhs)
No need to unscrew it all the way, just a few turns.
