I have a couple of Merc rims (2104000702 ET37 7Jx15) which I'm thinking of using on my Doka to take some Maxxis MT tyres.(Spares for when it gets really boggy!!)

I notice that most recommend 5.5,6 or 6.5 wheels. Has anybody had experience of using this size wheel on their syncro?

I already have 2 of these rims and am wondering if it's worth getting 2 more to make up a set or ditching them and looking for some narrower ones.

Any thoughts gratefully received.

I have a 225/70 tyre fitted to a 7 x 15 Merc wheel as a spare and it fits perfectly. Its from a W126 and not a W210 that yours is off so the ET is different at 11 and the rating is enough for a Syncro. I don't know what the W210 rating is

I've just offered up the wheel and there the clearance between the rim and the brake caliper is barely the width of my little finger, which may not generally be an issue but could be problematic offroad. The mefro gives far more clearance.

The tyre sits well on the rim but the extra width of the rim more than counteracts the difference in ET (30 on my regular Mefros, 37 on the mercs). Maybe a 7jx15 ET42 might work, but I'm getting slightly out of my depth there.

I also have the Mercedes W126 (1980's S-Class) rims on the Doka (7J 15 ET25). Perfect fit with 215/75/15 ATs but should be used with the smaller radius nuts (M14 R12 instead of the VW M14 R14). Back then there were three manufacturers of these rims (Südrad, Lemmerz and Kronprinz). The Mercedes part number is the same for all of them (1264002802) but only the Kronprinz (Kpz 6222A) have a load rating (700kg at 130kmh) that is sufficient to legally drive them on a T25 over here in Germany. That's why they are usually harder to find and more expensive than the other two. The Südrad and Lemmerz rims might be able to take the load but there are no documents to prove it.

(Maybe I'll tell you my Lueneburge Heide story one day. Only syncro related in a very roundabout way though!!)

I also run on 1264002802 rims (offset 25). Great rims - even have a spare set!

No need for spacers - clears sliding door and widens track slightly. Great on corners.
