Steering column confusion

Steering column confusion
So I swapped my steering column over for one in good condition and I'm now wondering what the hole was for on the old one. Any ideas? Hazard warning light?

Originally it was for a switch to operate the heated seats, but you could put anything in there (within reason) I've got an outside temp gauge in mine.
