Ohhh... Ok not what I thought at all! That's cleared that one up. My next question was what was the big black one ;-)
Is this black one approx 70mm2 ? My vans an 84 crossover, from what I've read later vans had a 70mm2, earlier were 35mm2?

Yours is the 35mm2 cable.
Thanks herb.
it turns out my starter is goosed (jumping it with a different battery doesn't even engage it). It's an unknown, upto 18 years old itself. They're a bit cheaper than the vw Bosch type, so I Ill get a new one (a Subaru £70) and fix up the old one if possible (no core exchange). I'll uprate the battery line to 70mm as well.

Sick of starter issues over the years, hopefully thisll end it :-\ (he says)

Hmm! Just replaced the starter with new, and it starts like an absolute champ, faster than I've ever had( with the wbx and now Subaru). So now I have 5m of 70mm2 cable arrived (£45).... Wondering if I should still fit it, given the faff. No brainer of course, if I had more spare time...

You don't need too, the starter only takes 80-100A, 35mm2 is plenty.
