Oil pressure test + Compression test

hi all,
following my problems after the oil change (see separate), i've borrowed a test gauge kit, can anyone give me some simple methodology for the test and what results to look for etc.
it will also do compression tests, might as well while i have it, again a methodology etc would be great please.
"pretend" i know nothing and write in laymens terms please!
van is a 1981 1600ct
ps the exhaust is blowing badly in several parts if that makes a difference at all.
