Where did the time go? Ah well...

New guide studs fitted, so at least its up on the stand now but definitely needs cleaning again:

I think you can see the pics only if you log in to tapatalk. It forces people to use their software.
I cannot see the pics either.

i suspect that the reason those pics are not displaying is the size, try a smaller size...... those are too big for the forum i think ......

Whats the max pic size for the forum to happily display? I will alter my phone camera settings to suit.

Well after many delays and being used as a reference, its going back together at long last! Cam is timed and fixed (my own gear adaptors) so just a few tweaks needed to the sump baffle and it can be closed up [SMILING FACE WITH SMILING EYES]
Should be ready nicely in time for when the syncro comes home...

Fresh in this morning, two dozen 98mm pistons for 2.5 or 3.7 Oettinger engines with 82mm stroke.
The Oettinger spec 9.7:1 (49.5cc) are pre-sold and headed to Japan for 3.7 wbx-6, whereas the new 10:1 (45.5cc) will be available for 2.5 engines using AMC heads with the 23cc combustion chamber.
The 10:1 are a smidge heavier than the 9.7 at 515g but a good deal lighter than the OEM DJ piston which comes in at a hefty 585g (both weighed with pins , no rings) so that a lot less strain on your big-end bolts and bearings.ImageImage

For one reason or another, this engine has been sat around waiting for some love for ages...
It seemed like a good time to get it closed up.
I also got the heads stripped down and roughly degreased. The porting work is all Oettinger.ImageImage

PS I get the blanking plugs BZP plated because on my 1985 syncro's original DG that same plug had perforated!

Camshaft notching for long-stroke engines. This allows the big end bolt heads to clear the cam, but the notches have to be "timed" relative to TDC to 4 pairs of different angles and not just every 90 degrees ;)ImageImage

Well this has taken an age! I've just lapped the valves in, they just need a quick tickle on the grinder and the heads can go on.
Funny thing is that after all this time, this engine now surplus to requirements.
If you want to join a very exclusive club and have your bus wear the Oettinger badge with pride, pm me.

By way of a reminder:

Engine #53, heads and inlet manifold fully ported, NOS 9.7:1 pistons and liners, my profile 2.5 cam (notched), new TRW valves, new con-rods (case clearanced), 26mm o-ringed pump, Speedshop stainless exhaust (s/h), DJ loom and ecu etc.
A thermostatic, fan-assisted oil cooler system with remote oil cooler is a highly- recommended option.
