Biggest total diameter on a T3. 2WD?

Post by ELVIS »

Want to go higher not lower, what's the biggest (tallest sidewall) I can fit on a 2wd without fitting spacers on springs?

At suggestions as to largest total diameter (regardless of rim size/tyre size but for the record using 16s and want to keep with 205s but might consider 195 or 215)

Pics of would be better  :ok

Syncro look! love it, personally much prefer to slammed + bling wheels

Did you manage to fit a spare of that size in the standard place, or not bother?

I prefer this look, and more practical too.

I live and use(d) the bus in the sticks, so something with a little more grip and little taller makes the going a bit easier (when it's running!)

SPARE OF THE SAME SIZE FITTED IN THE ORIGINAL BASKET UNDER NEATH( "bar-steward" caps lock), but the carrier hinges had been modified by the previous owner as it was fitted with 215/75/16s

I'm currently running 215/75 16 on Merc steels, although only on the rear, but today I wanted to try some merc alloys I had lying around that are 8" and the 215's are too narrow, so for a laugh I thought I'd a 255/65 16, fills the arch nicely but is rubbing slightly on the inside of the wishbone - I think a 5mm spacer would cure it, but I think something along the lines of a 225/65 16 would be better

Similar here (but in my case 205 / 80 all round and on Carat Alloys) looks good, noticeably higher and you can feel the extra "legs" that the bigger diameter gives the gearing, and no, it doesn't "over gear it" in forth, mind you mine is a TinTop so a bit lighter than say a Hi-Top.

Note the "80" profile Billy and I are talking about here, as in not the 70 profile usually used.

This is something I've been thinking about lately - I would like to have taller diameter tyres on my bus, but I think with the puny 1.6d engine and westy conversion I haven't got enough engine power. I have smaller tyres on now (205/60/16 iirc - whatever came on the merc alloys), and the acceleration is great, but top speed not so good. I'll be getting new tyres soon...

Would be interested to know what diameter tyres people have put on the diesel westies...

Yeah I like this! Next time I need new tyres I'll try this. I like steel wheels. I've a wboxer DH, which has a few more horses than the DG, but still don't want to make it wheeze any harder!
