Hub Caps from Just K's

Post by fish27070 »

Hi all, was wondering if anyone has ever bought any steel hubcaps from JK's The asking price for used ones on flea bay is ridiculous. I appreciate that they may not be top quality gear but if anyone has had any, can they let me know if they stayed on the wheels or if they rusted up etc... I was thinking of geting some of their wheel trims too. Would anyone know if the wheel trims would fit if there are wheel balancing weights on the rim of the wheel ?
Thanks all

I think the caps on ours must be JK ones. They must've been new when we bought the van at the start of 2011, and looked good-as when we left the UK in May. Even in the sun of a French/Spanish/Portuguese/Italian summer, they started to show signs of brown. By winter '11 in southern Italy, they were starting to look very spotty. By autumn '12, when we got back to the UK, they were probably 50/50 shiny/brown. Now...? They're almost entirely brown. I'm not over-worried about cosmetics, but they're looking a bit scruffy even for my liking - I think they're going to get flatted back and painted before spring. They've not fallen off at all, though, after ~40k miles of often rough roads.

jk hubcaps are "feck" "pooh".
I bought two sets from them, and both, as in all eight, rusted in WEEKS!
but to fair, what do you expect for the price?

if you want high quality stuff you have to dig deeper into your pockets. :(

I use stainless steel hub caps from my old Rover 2000's. Otherwise if not worried about originality try chromed plastic ones. Perhaps some racy simulated wire wheel ones and cut a dash at Rallies :D You might start a trend !!
Or not as the case may be. !

Chrome hub caps rust. The cheap ones from Jk rust with the first sniff of moisture, even original VW ones rust unless looked after. Hence VW supplied it's vans with silver painted caps as vans tended not to be looked after as much as cars.
If you want shiny fit and forget buy the stainless steel ones.

quote"If you want shiny fit and forget buy the stainless steel ones."

see how good the stainless is , put a magnet on them , if there magnetic they will rust

this is the reason genuine vw one have a premium especially on ebay ect . you wont beat oem quality even if they do eventually rust!

as with lots of parts good used oem is much better than new copy cheese parts!

But a magnet doesn't stick to them and they don't rust, simples.

Look good as well.

I lost a hubcap which was an original one,i was given a just kampers one to replace it ,its been on the van since august this year and its rusty brown unlike the 3 original ones which are perfect.so I can see why original caps fetch good money.

Thanks for all of the replies peeps. I would prefer the stainless hub caps but it's the thought of some scum bucket ripping them off at any time and selling them for the price of a quick fix :x I think I might try 2 of the JK ones and keep the Brasso or Duraglit at hand and report back :ok

A friend got his from Schofields for his Baywindow (same caps as a T25) and they are perfect, no signs of rust. Can't say how many they have left or if they even have any left but they were heavily priced at £160 for a set of 4  !! although i suppose you get what you pay for.
