Help I've got the random horn.

Post by Fande t25 »

Not as rude as the title might suggest but got ya looking :)

My van sounds its horn off at random. Normally when I turn the wheel but not constantly. On a drive yesterday with my little boy it really picked its moments. At least three women thought I was trying to ogle them whilst driving past, and whilst behind a rather slow Sunday type driver the van horned twice rather loudly. It's gonna get me punched real soon.

Any ideas anyone.

Mine does exactly the same thing. I'm not sure what it is. I've had the steering wheel and column apart too. I just disconnected it underneath in the end and reconnect for the mot.

I've done that too but was hoping for a better solution. So far no one has any ideas - or everyone's busy camping this weekend. I plan on taking everything apart to look at it and clean it all up. I'll update this post with the results when it's done

Mine does this, and seems to worse when it's raining. I know water is getting in through windscreen so thought it was this affecting it.

I have to take dash out soon to do heater so was hoping I could find source then.

It is really embarrassing as it picks worse time to sound!

Before i realised my horn problem was with the adjustment screw on the horn itself, i had taken the push button off to clean up all the connections etc but didn't put the wires back cleanly and had the horn sounding when cornering :ok

Had a horn free drive home today :D

Took steering wheel off expecting to find a load of gunk but found it surprisingly clean. Gave the brass ring a little wipe, applied Vaseline and put it all back. Reconnected the horn under the front bumper and it seems to have done the trick.

Even took an especially long route home through all the back roads requiring lots of steering to test it. Oh and this also stopped the grinding that the steering used to make.

Another Club 80 90 success story :ok

I know I shouldn't laugh at others misfortune but thank you for this post - it made be chuckle!! that said, I'm delighted that its reached a successful conclusion - 'Random horn' especially in public places can be such a nuisance ;-)
