AAZ TDC?

Post by dekhelia »

Swapping from JX motor to AAZ. Using the JX flywheel amongst other bits and bobs, and was wondering about TDC. I have the smallest hole in the injection pump pulley lined up with the hole behind and locked with a pin. The camshaft locking plate is in place. The inlet valve on #1 cylinder has just closed, and the exhaust valve has yet to open.

This must be TDC, right? Or am I missing something?

That should be TDC, but to time the pump properly you need to have the TDC mark on the flywheel lined up as well.

Have a look here.

What an excellent how-to, much appreciated!

Actually I had already established that the engine was at TDC, as the flywheel only fits on one way and when the clutch is bolted on, the cutout in the pressure plate cover lined up exactly with the pointer on the bell housing. So that's good.

But that site you linked to looks to be the right way to get the pump timing spot on when everything's back together. Thanks again!

Both cams on 1 should be upwards at ten to two to set the basic timing....not just closed .

Aye, that's the way the cam lobes are. Although I ended up using the cam locking plate/tool from Brickwerx, so obviously there's not much chance of getting it wrong (luckily for me).
