A good show well worth Displayin at..

Many thanks to:

Jenny for doing so many displays and mounting them all (and me for collecting them from printers :))

Chairman Dai ( & Debs) for being there first and sorting the display site drama out (we were originally allocated about 1/3 of the agreed are, and on a bad slope too), and for everything else, including many breakfasts and teas.

Those who displayed, helped and supported us:-

Pete & Sharon, Lee.., Richard PK, Paul Jebiga and his Unicorn (thanks for the best bed in the house)

Supporters who took the trouble to visit:-

Aidan, Terry, Jed, Al & Harriet, Tom & Gemma, Jes & Megan, Jason (all the way from Denmark), Max, GaryD

not forgetting all the children!

Sorry if Ive missed anyone

We did! Andy McClements, where were you, your sort of show, indubitably :|

Enjoyed the whole thing, and you would have too, with any interest in overlanding on wheels...

I do hope so.

I have often thought what would or could replace a Syncro if I was to go slightly bigger and I think one of those Iveco's could be a candidate. I was quite taken by them, unlike greedy Pete who had his eye on the big white lorry

We all had a great time. Made a refreshing change from going to over commercialised VW shows. No one trying to act cool or trendy and no stalls trying to sell T-shirts etc with Bays or Spits printed in them or the tall flag thingies.

As others have said I don't think there was anything there that I would replace my syncro with. The Landy's with the pods on the back were very, very good, but at nearly £100 000 they are a little out of my budget. And again a Syncro suits us better. Although I now have a soft spot for 101's!

A big thank you to Jenny for the huge effort that must have been put into the display boards. They looked amazing. :ok

It was great to see everyone and we will definitely be up for this next year.

There were several big white luvverly lorries, weren't there :ok

the one I first saw park uip Friday night, I heard a faint purring sound after he turned it off , so asked and he opened the back up...

Yup, a 7KW generator in the back, self-contained, and I guessed right about the engine driving it ~ a Kubota

almost silent.

I thoroughly enjoyed the show and meeting syncronauts i'd not met before.

Clive, Jenny, Dai, Debs, Pete, Sharon, George, Paul and Jason. Thanks for a really great welcoming.

Good see to catch up with old mates as well.

I totally second Toms comments on Jennys work on the photo boards. Top quality.

I feel like i'm in a bit of an expedition vehicle haze, so many toys that looked and sounded awesome, though not sure about the Landy with a toilet seat mounted on the front bumper. I might be a hairy ar$%ed builder but I think perhaps a good dump should be in private!

I did manage to sit in on a seminar on Sunday morning.

A guy called Austin Vince did an hour and a half on " How to make an overland adventure instead of a home movie" It was excellent. Really good tips.

He told me about a date for next years diary.

The Overland Adventure film festival. Sherbourne in Dorset, August 2013. He is running it, judging by his enthusiasm for off roading and filming it should be excellent. Will let you know the dates when he e-mails me. Could be an excuse for some lanes and a few beers.

I have a few photos and will put them up soon.

Cheers All
Rich

yes a great weekend and a really interesting show, thanks for the photos and comments..I will definitely be going next year as the off road/4X4 guys were really friendly and took the time to chat. The most interesting thing for me was the fact that just about all the visitors were wearing those Aussie type hats without the corks and had a dog in tow :ok :ok

Thanks Richard, we'll put that in the Syncronauts calendar as a 'maybe' then.. and it's not that far from our Cullompton Devon campsite and the same month.. be interesting to see if it's the first weekend as well :ok

Well it was definately worth the 2 hr run from work on Sat to go to the show . . . and what a show just what we are looking for! Hardcore stands with no tat :) I guess we all left the show with a shopping list for christmas and many ideas we want to take further!
It was great to see our club on display at such an event, big thanks to Jenny, and I hope that this will become an annual meet :D
Also a big thank you to Sharon for feeding me and everyone else that passed a helpful comment on keeping my syncro alive . . . I love getting together with you all and gaining knowledge (the morning after), thanx :D

My jeans took a painful rip but the goods have arrived and in the garage Aidan :) My neighbour who helped me out of the van with it, thinks its great, happy days!

Jed wrote:I think by the 80-90 Syncronauts getting involved in this sort of thing rather than the stale same old same of VW shows etc is a big push forward to more interesting things and I cant wait until the next one

Think Jed's summed it up there !

Opened a lot of eyes

So whatever we thought at the time, hats off to Tom McGuigan the organiser :ok

and another thanks to Alistair for getting the SN Committee to get themselves sorted on it

Tom McGuigan wrote:Are you seeking a beach package holiday on the Costas … then you’ve come to the wrong place?!

The aim of ADVENTURE OVERLAND is simple, to bring together all types of adventure travel under
one roof ... albeit outdoors! These fall into three distinct categories:-

  1. Motorised transport: 4x4 campers, overland trucks, trailbikes and touring motorcycles.

  2. Non-motorised transport: Cycles – both single-seaters and tandems.

  3. Trekking: Back to basics, trekking takes you where machines can’t!

It is the intention of ADVENTURE OVERLAND to represent all three of these categories, whether it
be trade stands or club and community forum representation.

Think 2 & 3 weren't well supported at all.. or did I miss something ?
