Windscreen washer plumbing blocked.

Post by horns »

I've just failed my MOT due to lack of windscreen washers! Frankly, I'm relieved that's all it failed on, but I need to get them working. There's water in the bottle, and the pump is running, but there's just a feeble dribble emerging from the jets - so I'm assuming there's a blockage somewhere. Anyone got any tips for how to get at the pipework and clear it?

It is probably the jet that is blocked. Give it a good prod with a needle whilst someone activates the washers.

I don't think it's the jets, to be honest - seems unlikely that they'd both get blocked at the same time, they look clear and there is a small amount of water flowing from them. I'll give them a poke, but I think the problem lies elsewhere.

Simon , best to replace the tubing ( fish tank place will sell it) , test the jets , replace if blocked if poking them with a needle doesn't work
Or pull the tube off the pump (take it that is working) and blast some air through the lines

Yeah, the pump is working. How do I get to the tubing and the pump? Front grille? Or drop the tank out?

Ta. I'll get under there shortly and have a look. At least it failed on something cheap!

Nice bit of info this. :ok

Struggling to remove jets though. Surely Ive not got to remove the dash (again!) just for these two small items?

Blow pipes through with air compressor, at 100psi with airblower. Never fails.
