Re. Ebay flywheel/clutch is listed for 'Mk4' aged cars not earlier Mk3's not sure what's different, perhaps the release bearing (which you dont need). Also it'll be 'foreign' manufacture, personally I stick with VW, LUK or Sachs. Don't forget to get a T3 release bearing, and the correct screws for the SMF flywheel (DMF ones are longer).

Re. timing, as you're not having to modify the flywheel, you'll retain the original Golf timing mark. The easy way is to use the correct timing tool to find TDC. However you could use the Golf bellhousing to set TDC (after fitting the new flywheel) then use the T3 bellhousing to make a timing mark on the TDI pressure plate. I use a 1mm disc in an angle grinder.

well i had no choice so i have bought it , .. if it works out to be wrong i can return it , if it fails in the future i will source a VW one .

will let everyone know tomorrow if it fits ! lol

poop .. one last problem .. is the input shaft idle bearing !

my TDI shaft wobbles in the current one .. so will need to try and find one tomorrow ...anyone have a part no ?
guess it depends on my crank though :(

Hope it all works out for you, nothing worse than last minute delays
this is my flywheel and clutch (1Z) thankfully i can see A TDC mark tipexed on mine

was googling about what DMF would fit my T25 , and i came across this thread LOL 

anyway gearbox is out at moment , getting new CW/pinon fitted / over hauled ...

Do i swap to a DMF ( SMF seemed to do the job over the last 14 years !! wow 14 years ..( it has not been driven for all those years ) 

If so what DMF setup do i need lol

and what SACHS number if i just wanted to stay with my SMF flywheel ( ie what clutch do i need again lol ) as that old ebay link long gone lol 

going to remove the clutch over weekend and inspect first

old clutch will have the numbers on it
