is BBB kaput / How do I fit a Victron
Hi all,
noticed nothing was charging on hookup this weekend. Figured out lights are not on leisure yet. I'm now wondering if it's been like this for ages and I've never noticed. We normally plug stuff in to the socket, toaster etc and maybe were running lights of starter without realising. I know stereo was changed to leisure bat. We don't use a lot of power and I do seem to get through both batteries but that could be for various reasons.
Opened BBB up and clear fuse has blown.
Looks like a resistor might have burnt out but this might just be age. Any help appreciated.
I was thinking of swapping out for the Victron before this anyway. I understand it's a straight swap more or less but can someone explain it to me like I'm 5. Do. I snip wires at the charger end?
There is a Propex underneath with a spade fuse but I'm guessing this is fed directly from leisure and is of no concern.
Many thanks

Have you checked the thermal fuse in the bottom pic?

I was about to reply yes but now I'm guessing now this is different to the transparent fuse from the same area.
What am I looking for? Is it that little black square tab half under the orange bar? If so that appears to be ok when doing a continuity test but I'm a bit of an amateur with the meter...

Yes. If you have checked that it has continuity that is fine. This blows if the coil overheats, usually around 130 deg.
Will need to search elsewhere then.

ok thanks, I guess I should replace the clear fuse first and see if it just blows again. I'm struggling to read the rating on it - any idea?

If you are talking about the fuse inside the box - I think that it is 2A going by previous posts.

Re: is BBB kaput / How do I fit a Victron
The one that was in there thats blown appears to be 11.6a. (Clear one inside box at the top next to the thermal fuse)
...update: Just seen on outside of box 1,6a but defo looks like 11.6 on the fuse

Fitted the Victron in the end. Fairly simple swap and works like a charm...

They're good chargers.
The "Night mode" is a good idea - reducing the current to allow it to run cooler and without turning the fan on and creating noise, however I've never actually heard the fan kick in on mine in normal mode!

Re: is BBB kaput / How do I fit a Victron
This might seem like a silly question but is it only visible within the Victron Bluetooth app when it's charging? I tried connecting but not whilst charging and couldn't see it. I guess it would always be 'listening' and drawing charge if on all the time was my assumption.

Yeah, it only appears on bluetooth when plugged in to the mains - as you say, to reduce parasitic power draw.
