Has anyone got any experience of adding this replacement to a KY?

I'm looking to push up to a cruise of 65 with less revving (on the flat obviously ).
Is it worth doing/ any downsides?

Re: Ring and pinnion for 1.7D
You don't have the power to pull taller gearing, the stock gearbox is matched to the engine, 1.7s were delivery vehicles, good acceleration up through the gears round town, great up to 50, not ideal as a mile munching motorway cruiser, so slow and steady holiday mode, hold up the traffic on a hill on the A roads. If you have an ABR or similar gearbox that's your limit and you will need to use 4th a bit uphill
try bigger tyres like 195R14C, that will add a bit of speed for same revs it's the same as changing final drive, you might cope with the 5% extra load, might not depending on body profile and weight and health of engine

Thanks Aidan that all sounds like good advice. It seems a shame not to get the extra 5mph out of it (upto 65) for fear of over-revving. I'll consider the tyre upgrade.

Or i could just push her to 65 on the straights and hope for the best.
