Yes, you're quite right, a long time since I changed my discs and beatings. Having a lot of different vehicles doesn't help either!

But the point is, it's a taper bearing, so only nipped up, not 90 odd ft/lbs torque.

Re: Help with removal of nearside brake hub
Are they talking about the wheel nuts being tight due to alloy corrosion? ( As the wheel has not been removed in the pics )

Re: Help with removal of nearside brake hub
Oops, sorry for the repeat post. We may be making assumptions here, as OBG states, is the op referring to wheel nuts?

Re: Help with removal of nearside brake hub
No, its not a taper bearing.

And yes maybe the OP does mean his wheel nuts as he mentions nuts. Not nut.

Re: Help with removal of nearside brake hub
The outer is a taper surely, it is only the inner that isn't.
This may help the OP when they get that far: viewtopic.php?t=122485

My bad. The bearing is tapered. I think I might borrow Rosie n Jim's box.

Re: Help with removal of nearside brake hub
Front hub (taper) bearings should be set to approx 3 thou' endfloat or 0.07mm. Never "nip" them or set them tight, thats when they overheat, the stub axle gets red hot and fails...
Its all in the Haynes Book of Lies, they got that bit right.
