Lift the engine hatch and get looking. Oil only runs down the engine. Could be the crankshaft seal behind the pulley, the breather tower O-ring, fuel pump gasket, oil pressure switch, oil pump cover..lots of things that can leak.
Assuming that its a wbx. Diesels leak in other places.

I've had an oil drip for the past 10 years. I still have it but it isn't peshing out - just the odd drop. Tis annoying.
It was worse last year and after looking around I determined the oil breather tower was a likely culprit. Took it off, renewed the O-ring and re-tightened it. Now it is dry up top and I just have the 'normal' wee drip. I did ask my VW mechanic about dropping the engine to tighten up the coolant pump (next most likely culprit but tis very hard to see down in the gubbins) but a) he said it'd be a costly exercise and b) if I wasn't losing copious amounts of oil, then just to leave it and check my oil level regularly. So I have a bit of an oily bottom and don't worry about it. Andrew 87DGWBXKomet
