BEHR/Hella was bought out by MAHLE in 2020 so check the Mahle catalogue for the size and number of rows of the one you have. Brickwerks have a Mahle account I think.

I would really recommend fitting a combined inlet manifold and charge cooler from Tibo Reeb (he's on Facebook. ) they are great! Bit expensive but nowhere near 2k. Having  one means pretty much zero silicone hoses, and everything on the air inlet from snorkel to turbo can be be factory jx. I'm running one, ahu turbo on a jx exhaust manifold.
there will be pics on my build thread, or just say and I'll post a pic when I'm home

Sounds interesting - does he have a means of contact that doesn't involve farcebork?

You either supply or he does and charges you cost. Many years ago when I got mine, before brexit and "pooh" exchange rates it was £400

Started to fit my recently acquired otteniger kit
ImageImageImage
Had to make rad brackets from pictures but was simple and straightforward just need paint now
Its all very cosy

Test fitting hoses

This is 2 vw hoses with a joiner from turbo to intercooler  (one being the original one for the jx the other for a golf mk2 g60 rallye 191 145 832)

Larger bore into inlet manifold

Only issue so far is one of the original air filter brackets no longer fits (may be me not correctly mounting intercooler? But I followed instructions.) However mine was broken anyway so didn't really do anything
I have measured all hoses and will be running as they are for test purposes and have ordered new silicone replacements.. All I have to do is run the water hoses front to back and wire up the pump with a relay to come on with ignition.

Hey Guys! I have a Multivan Syncro with Öttinger JX engine. I like to do service maintenance on the intercooler. Can I ask some service information about it?
  • Where can I load in the antifreeze liquid,
  • How many antifreeze liquid needed,
  • Where can we vent out the air from the intercooler's liquid system
I just bought I couple of weeks ago, so I'm new in this Vanagon thing. :)
Thanks!

There’s a bunch of information in this thread about the Oettinger JX on the IG Syncro 16 forum - it’s all in German but it should help get you going:
