hazard light switch internals

Post by Sans »

For anyone wondering what the inside of the hazard switch parts exist it should be as follows.

  1. The switch housing (rocker)
  2. Pin plate (the back bit)
  3. Two small springs
  4. A metal T contact plate - with three raised contact areas
  5. A metal U contact plate - with two raised contact areas
  6. A plastic rocker assembly - roughly the depth of the switch housing. It will have two round holes for the springs to sit in.

Background:
I was trying to fix an intermittent hazard light where only one side of the van would light up sometimes both depending on how you pressed the switch. The relay was going nuts.

I started to take apart the dashboard to get at the switch and it exploded in my hands when trying to pull it off the connector.
I was unable to see any pictures online of what parts make up the internals of the switch. After looking at the wiring diagram I could see I was missing in my case the U contact plate and luckily it fell into the door card bin.

Hope the parts list helps someone else out who accidentally explodes the switch when trying to disconnect it.
