The part number on the casting is only part of the complete part, but I'm fairly sure that's a JP, JR, RA code engine head, 068 103 351 AA is JP, 068 103 351 AB is JR and 068 103 351 AF is RA part number for bare head, 068 103 265 FX is JP, 068 103 265 GX is JR and 068 103 265 HX is RA part number for complete head with valves
Look pretty hard to find now as you are finding, no longer available from VW, Autodoc or any of the usual easy to check sources
Maybe check with AW engineering, they might be able to salvage your head, but trying to find a pre 1990 car donor is pretty unlikely virtually all have already been scrapped and given up their engines
I found one head in Germany on ebay ebay link

and complete head in Sheffield on ebay VOLKSWAGEN GOLF ENGINE HEAD CYLINDER P/N:036103341 | eBay using Golf 1.TD engine as search term

the German one looks tidy but is in Germany obviously, it does have same part number on the casting as yours, it is showing on Ebay uk so should ship to you

Thanks Aidan

I saw the head on ebay.  It has done alomst 300km. I was wondering how hard it would be to refurbish, if needed.  Obviously I have all the parts on my cracked head, which ran well before it overheated.

Personally considering the amount of work to replace a head you would e prudent putting a new head on it and not used.
You don't want to go through all the hassle to so it again in a few years for the sake of a few hundred pounds extra

I'm having difficulty finding a new head that is built up.

I think this is the right head.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/273942499627 ... name=11051

But the vendor told me that it is not.  He hasn't/will not tell me the AMC part number.

He also told me he has the right head but it's another £260.  He hasn't will not tell me the part number of that either.

cross checking the VW part number on autodoc comes up with AMC 908018 this is link to amazon 2 available, I am not saying this is correct I would advise doing your own due diligence, maybe contact Brickwerks sales@brickwerks.co.you know the last 2 letters and ask them if they can give you the AMC part number they have the knowledge, afaik they don't carry the JP,JR,RA stuff
Did you find the engine number on your block to confirm what it actually is ?
