Window Winder handles

Post by garyd »

I seem to go through these window handles quite frequently and have bust another today.

Has anyone found a source or design which is stronger that the original cast alloy type? I've seen some drilled channel ones which might be machined steel but which could just as easily be equally weak castings.

thanks

Also servicing the winder mechanism will reduce the effort (and strain) the handle is subject to. Its a big piece of glass so an overhaul is worth doing.

Covkid - The windows are free running although they occasionally stick in the rubbers if closed for a long while. The problem seems to be less in the rotational leverage strength than in resisting the occasional force square to the door - ie pulling the knob away from the trim panel.

Rob - yes please to photos and any other info on where they're from.

thanks both

The common replacement on bugs (and they fit the T25 too): https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Window-winde ... PcRU1g3esg" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

However, check out the Audi ones first.

This is one of mine. I bought them off here, but can't remember who off. I'm pretty certain the seller said they were off an Audi.

I have the Audi handles in my Bluestar for no other reason than they look good :D I've no need for 'stronger' handles. Straight swap, 5 minutes work on a dark driveway

Does anybody know if all the VW's had the same winder spline dims? are they pretty much all interchangeable?

I just tried my Lupo handle ( that looks like the Audi one above) on my T25 and it was quite tight, looks like a slightly different spline shape.

thanks

I have beetle handles on mine. Go straight on but used longer screws/bolts to fit. Same in Covkid link.

Most VAG (but not all) use the same splines. I have Skoda Felicia ones on mine.

thanks, so some off a scrapie would likely fit and be much better than the rubbish you can buy.

I was wrong about the Lupo handle it was right but the spline on the handle was a bit damaged hence why it didn't fit.

Perfect for flat unwarped door cards but on my tin top they are warped and it rubs because they don't come out at an angle like the OEM

Plenty of Lupos get scrapped and parts on them often dirt cheap.
