Re: Engine rebuild thread - for fun only
I think that's close enough to declare Aidan the winner, though Titus was getting even closer on the equipment side.
Not a chainsaw, but a leaf blower, many of them they use the same Husqvarna 25cc two-stroke engines anyway.
It was given to me as a non runner "you like messing with stuff don't you"
Having checked the presence of spark and fuel, I did a compression test, only 4 bar so I pulled her apart.
The piston ring was stuck in the groove, which is the point at which I took this photo.
Using diesel and a very small screwdriver, I got the ring released, the groove was full of carbon deposits. Having removed the ring I cleaned it up with more diesel and a green kitchen pad, the inside edge of the ring was rough with carbon. I was just giving it a final clean on the inner edge when I applied a bit too much pressure and snapped the ring
Knowing the previous owner, I am doubtful that they will have mixed the fuel correctly, the top of the combustion chamber is black with deposits too. I suspected no oil, but looking at the deposits I now suspect too much oil. There's only minor scuffing on the piston. They are so tiny, 34mm I think.
I think I'll just order another ring (£3.48 aftermarket), reassemble and see if I have a runner.
..... of course if others have different thoughts, post away, as I have never done much with two strokes

Not completely true, good diagnostic tool for finding micro leaks in exhausts.
Oh, and it has a suck mode as well as blow
